The price of cheese, milk and eggs rose by more than 30 per cent in the UK in the 12 months to March, according to official figures.
The Office for National Statistics on Wednesday published a new shopping prices comparison tool that tracks changes in prices, which revealed the price of hard cheese rose the fastest at 44 per cent.
The prices of eggs and milk rose at annual rates of 32 per cent and 39 per cent respectively, more than three times the headline inflation rate of 10.1 per cent.
The price of takeaway burgers and fish and chips rose by nearly 20 per cent over the same period.
